Concert artist Di Wu will appear in Cookeville on April 17 and 18.

SEASON FINALE: Two days to celebrate beautiful music

Cliburn Competition finalist Di Wu, who charmed our audience two years ago, makes her second appearance in Cookeville to headline two days of performances marking the end of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra’s 2009-2010 season.

The award-winning pianist will give a private recital benefiting the BSO at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 17, at the home of Bob and Julia Lowe. And she’ll perform the solo of the legendary Prokofiev “Piano Concerto No. 3” during the season finale of the BSO beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 18, in Wattenbarger Auditorium.

The second of two special Symphony Socials this season, the recital will include light classics, and audience members are invited to stay for champagne and dessert following the performance.

Seating is limited, and reservations are required; call 931-525-2633. All proceeds benefit the Bryan Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $50.

“Di typifies the kind of artist we like to bring to the Upper Cumberland,” says BSO Music Director Dan Allcott. “Her music-making is first rate, and she has the combination of technical ability, artistic subtlety, and joie de vivre that makes her an instant favorite. We’re lucky to have her performing twice for us while she is here, and I'm lucky to just sit back and enjoy hearing her solo recital.”

Last year, Wu made her Alice Tully Hall recital debut as the winner of Juillard’s William Petschek Piano Debut Recital Award. MusicalAmerica.com named her its Artist of the Month, and she won a Vendome Virtuosi prize at Lisbon’s prestigious Vendome Competition.

Two years ago, just after Musical America magazine listed her among 2008’s up-and-coming young artists, she appeared with the BSO for a stunning performance of Edvard Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor.”

The Bryan Symphony Orchestra, a member of the League of American Orchestras, is the only professional symphony in a rural area of Tennessee. The April 18 performance is sponsored by Region’s Bank, Herb and Betty Catlin and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
