Dr. Scott Hagarty is Associate Professor of Trumpet at Tennessee Tech University, where he teaches studio trumpet and directs the Tennessee Tech Trumpet Ensemble. He is principal trumpet of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Brass Arts Quintet, both in residence at Tennessee Tech University. Dr. Hagarty is also principal solo cornet of the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band based in Crossville, Tennessee. He was previously a member of the Corpus Christi, Victoria (TX) and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestras and has performed with the Nashville Symphony, Tennessee Philharmonic, Mid-Texas Symphony, Orchestra Iowa and the Rochester Symphony (MN) among others across the United States. As a chamber musician he was a member of the Corpus Christi Brass Quintet, Aurora Brass Quintet and the Del Mar College Faculty Brass Trio. He has performed and presented at many national and international music conferences and festivals including the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference, College Music Society Southern Region Conference, Texas Music Educators Association Convention, Texas Jazz Festival, Big 12 Trombone Conference, Victoria Bach Festival, International Trumpet Guild Conference, and the Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival among others. An avid supporter of new music, he has commissioned and premiered new works for trumpet and brass by David Wilborn, Greg Danner, Lucas Garner, James Stephenson, Erik Morales, Sy Brandon, Roger Petersen, Heath Mathews, Nadje Noordhuis and Neil Flory.

Dr. Hagarty was previously Associate Professor of Trumpet at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and has previously taught courses at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, the University of Minnesota, and Yale University. After growing up in Iowa, Dr. Hagarty earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a minor in jazz studies from the University of Northern Iowa, Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Yale University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance with a secondary area in music theory from the University of Minnesota. His primary trumpet teachers include Dr. David Baldwin, Gary Bordner, Allan Dean and Dr. Randy Grabowski.

Dr. Hagarty is an active member of the International Trumpet Guild serving as a regular media reviewer and conference reporter. He also has several publications in the ITG Journal and previously served as a music reviewer, chair of the social media committee, and on the membership committee. Scott Hagarty's original compositions and arrangements are published by Sheet Music Plus and Sheet Music Direct. He is an S.E. Shires Trumpet Artist.
